Corona antibody test to determine immunity

What is an antibody test and when is it used?

The antibody test can be used to detect an infection such as corona, as the immune system produces specific antibodies: IgM antibodies are detected positive after just a few days, IgG antibodies after several weeks.

Since the antibodies can only be detected with a delay after the onset of symptoms, we recommend that you test antibodies at least two weeks after the onset of symptoms and four weeks after possible contact with a patient.

How does an antibody test work to determine immunity?

A venous blood sample is carried out for the test and the evaluation is carried out within 24 hours in a certified laboratory.
This is an ELISA test (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). It is based on an enzymatic color reaction that can be used to detect antibodies in the blood.

Good to know: An antibody test is a self-pay benefit (iGEL), i.e. the costs are not covered by statutory health insurance.
