The first two GP practices of digital healthcare company Avi Medical have been operating in central Munich for a few weeks now - practice number three starts today in the Schwabing district. The Avi Medical practice network stands for a new, modern treatment style: patient-friendly, technology-supported and with a special human touch. The concept of the three founders — a medical doctor, a product expert and a serial founder — also convinced international investors. They have now provided Avi Medical with 28.5 million euros in a Series A financing round led by Berlin-based HealthTech fund Heal Capital and New York investor Addition.

Founder

Julian Kley, Christoph Baumeister and Vlad Lata (from left) founded Avi Medical in 2020 with the aim of redesigning primary care in Germany and Europe. Evidence-based medicine combined with the targeted use of modern technologies go hand in hand in Avi Medical's concept — in the interest of the best possible treatment for each individual patient. “We see ourselves as pioneers in primary care,” says co-founder and CEO Vlad Lata. “The vision that drives Chris, Julian and me is care that expands doctor-patient contact with modern digital options. Not as an end in itself, but to meaningfully support the treatment of patients wherever possible. ”

Avi Medical is the first company in Germany to completely integrate medicine and software and provide its doctors with a complete overall concept from a single source.

Avi Medical's new medical practice concept is designed to offer patients modern treatment in accordance with the latest medical standards. The doctor's visit starts with an easy online appointment booking. Patients will soon be filling out their medical history form on their smartphones at home, not in the waiting room. The integration of telemedicine ensures maximum convenience: Depending on the reason for treatment, patients can opt for a video consultation from home instead of coming to the practice in person. The opening hours — from 7 a.m. or until 8 p.m. on selected days and without a lunch break — are so broad that all patient groups can quickly find their preferred appointment. In addition, the Avi Medical team treats all patients equally and makes no distinction between legally and privately insured persons.

The doctors in the Avi Medical practice network are permanent employees and therefore have no financial risk. You benefit from flexible working time models with regulated and predictable working hours, as well as the option to communicate with patients via video chat even from the home office. Thanks to cutting-edge technology support, their administrative workload is significantly reduced — the bottom line is that doctors have more time for their original medical treatment activities. In addition to Heal Capital and Addition, the financing round also includes existing investor Picus Capital, Vorwerk Ventures, ID Invest, 3VC and Claret Capital Partners, as well as numerous business angels, including Daniel Dines from UI Path and the founders of Flatiron Health, Alasco, Finn.auto, FreelEtics, M4Capital, and Inventures. Avi Medical will use the capital received in the financing round to further develop software and to accelerate the growth of the practice network throughout Germany. The first two GP practices under the Avi Medical brand are located in the heart of Munich at Luisenstraße 1 right by the main train station and near the Hofstatt shopping center in the old town. Practice number 3 opens today, June 7, on Herzogstraße in Munich-Schwabing. Further practices will follow, first in Bavaria, then across Germany. “In the long term, every patient in Germany will have easy access to high-quality, cutting-edge medicine,” says Vlad Lata.Eckhardt Weber, general partner at Heal Capital, one of the leading European HealthTech funds, said: “We firmly believe that technology can redefine healthcare and guarantee better, cheaper and simpler patient care. In the end, everyone involved benefits from Avi Medical's concept of modern care: patients, doctors and insurers. “Jason Schneider from Addition emphasized: “Patients' needs have changed during the pandemic and accelerated digital transformation in healthcare, particularly with regard to innovation. Together with the Avi Medical team, we are excited to transform patient-doctor interaction into personalized digital experiences. “For Robin Godenrath, Founding Partner & Managing Director of tech investor Picus Capital, Avi Medical is taking a convincing approach: “We prefer to work with exceptional founding teams who have identified a massive market opportunity and are determined to challenge the status quo and shape the world of tomorrow. It was time to bring a breath of fresh air to GP practices and integrate digital solutions holistically into patients' healthcare. In the end, this benefits all people. ”

About the founders

Vlad Lata, CEO Avi Medical, co-founder and CTO of KONUX - Vlad firmly believes in the “power of algorithms” and that intelligent use of data significantly improves our quality of life. As co-founder and CTO of KONUX, he developed one of the first AI solutions used in Europe. For one of the most conservative industries of all — railroads — he recognized and unlocked the huge potential of data. Inspired by this success, Vlad took on another, much bigger — if not the biggest — challenge: making people healthy and keeping them healthy in the long term. It was time for a company that uses the power of data to help doctors achieve better medical outcomes.

Christoph Baumeister, CPO Avi Medical, co-founder of nello - Chris has already co-founded two startups and worked as CEO with a strong focus on product and marketing: at LOCUMI LABS, he developed an innovative solution for the last mile of package delivery. At nello, he launched a completely new smart home product for keyless home entrances. After, as a type 1 diabetic, he experienced first-hand how backward the German healthcare system is and how you can successfully manage it yourself through knowledge about your own illness, he developed the plan to do better. Avi Medical became such a matter close to his heart: “Visiting a doctor must finally reach the 21st century.”

Julian Kley, COO Avi Medical, doctor, previously Principal at BCG - With a family of doctors in the background, medicine was an early companion for Julian. However, after completing his medical degree at the University of Bonn, he asked himself a fundamental question: Is our healthcare system properly positioned for the future? What would you have to change? He therefore decided to change his perspective and better understand global health systems, interrelationships and innovation with the strategy consultancy Boston Consulting Group. He worked primarily for large corporations, but six years later it was clear to him that these companies would not save the healthcare system: They either lacked access to patients or the ability to use data correctly. So he took the reins of action into his own hands and became one of the founders of Avi Medical.
