Type 2 diabetes
This is how avi helps you with type 2 diabetes
As a diabetic, rapid access to medical advice and appropriate medications is essential. During your first consultation, our competent doctors in our avi practices will explain to you which symptoms are bothering you and find the right treatment for you.
In contrast to type 1 diabetes, the family doctor is your primary point of contact for type 2 diabetes. Our doctors are your constant companion throughout your diabetes treatment and are always there for you.
What is type 2 diabetes mellitus?
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic diseasethat is too persistent elevated blood sugar levels leads. The sugar supplied through food cannot be absorbed into the body's cells, which means that the sugar level in the blood rises. If this is permanently increased, vessels and organs can be seriously damaged.
This disease is not that rare at all! Almost eight million people in Germany are affected.
What are the possible symptoms and consequences of type 2 diabetes?
In the case of diabetes, those affected often suffer from:
- severe urge to urinate
- constant thirst
- weariness
- dry skin
- frequent infections
- Deterioration of vision
- potency disorder
Unfortunately, the disease can also remain undetected for many years. This is a problem because, in the long term, diabetes can cause long-term health damage due to damage to small and large arteries and nerves. Heart attacks, heart failure, stroke and kidney damage can be the consequences. It is therefore important to identify and treat the disease at an early stage in order to avoid long-term consequences, particularly on the heart, blood vessels and kidneys.
Treatment of type 2 diabetes in avi
With a simple blood test It can be clarified whether the corresponding symptoms are actually due to diabetes mellitus. Depending on the type of disease, there are various treatment options.
In the case of type 2 diabetes, it is important to set individual treatment goals. At the onset of the disease, it is possible to achieve a great deal by adjusting lifestyle habits (diet, exercise, abstinence from smoking). If blood sugar levels remain high despite an improved lifestyle, medication is used depending on age, concomitant diseases and needs.
What do I have to watch out for with type 2 diabetes?
Always pay attention to the following points:
- A wholesome, fiber-rich diet should consist of vegetables, whole grains, legumes, salads, good quality vegetable fats and some fruit. Carbohydrates with a low glycemic index are preferred. 30 grams of fiber per day is optimal.
- Consume low levels of animal fat, reduce your meat consumption and choose fish more often.
- Fruit, such as grapes, bananas, or mangos, cause blood sugar to rise significantly. Give preference to soft fruits here. Combine fruit with yogurt or quark so that blood sugar rises less sharply. You should eat fruit at a reduced rate.
- Take breaks between meals.
- Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid juices and drink little alcohol.
- Avoid being overweight. Exercise regularly. Run away from diabetes.
- Stop smoking.
- Take part in training for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
- Always carry your meter with you during insulin therapy. If your blood sugar level drops rapidly, you can counteract this with dextrose or a meal. You should check your blood sugar, especially before every trip by car. Never drive a motor vehicle with hypoglycaemia!
- Check your blood pressure regularly. This should be in a range of 130/80 mmHg.
- If you have concerns or fears, always contact the medical team; they can also help you here.
- Get enrolled in a disease management program (DMP) with your doctor. Quarterly control appointments are therefore firmly planned.
prevention
You can prevent type 2 diabetes! Lots of exercise and a balanced, healthy diet are the basis. You should also avoid permanent, negative stress, as it causes blood sugar levels to rise and remain consistently high.
